The EMS Feline Colour Code (Version 2025)
The E.M.S. (Easy Mind System) code is an international standardised system for coding breed, coat colour, pattern, white distribution and eye colour in cats.
Created in 1990 by Norwegian judge Eva Minde, this code has been officially adopted by the FIFé (Fédération Internationale Féline) and is also used by the LOOF, although there are some differences in the interpretation of the codes depending on the federation.
An EMS code can contain up to 5 components:
-
Breed
-
Coat colour
-
Coat pattern
-
White distribution
-
Eye colour (rarely indicated unless necessary)
